HYPERTENNIS AT THE POLITECNICO DI TORINO: INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY SERVING TENNIS
As part of the “Tennis & Technology” week hosted by the Politecnico di Torino, HyperTennis had the opportunity to present its innovative technological solution for the analysis and improvement of tennis performance. The event represented an important moment of exchange between the academic world and the sports innovation ecosystem, highlighting how technology is reshaping the future of tennis.
During the talk, we illustrated how, while current tennis technologies are mainly limited to systems such as Hawk-Eye for line calls or radars for ball speed measurement, there remains huge untapped potential for leveraging data and advanced analytics to enhance player performance.
A Digital Coach for the Modern Game
Our solution — which can truly be described as a digital coach — represents a significant step forward in this direction.
Through an integrated system of multiple cameras and artificial intelligence algorithms, we can simultaneously capture and analyze the movements of the player, racket, and ball with millimeter precision.
What makes our approach unique is its ability to:
• Perform a complete 3D reconstruction of the player’s motion;
• Analyze each stroke through its individual technical phases;
• Compare recorded parameters with a technical protocol developed in collaboration with federation experts;
• Generate automatic reports that are understandable to users at different levels of expertise.
From Research to Real-World Application
The presentation sparked particular interest when we showcased the practical applications of the system at the Circolo della Stampa Sporting in Turin, where our technology is already fully operational and providing valuable insights to players and coaches.
